Former President Donald Trump has called for the Republican Party to be “reimbursed for fraud” following President Joe Biden’s announcement to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Trump’s remarks came through a series of posts on his social media platform, Truth Social, just hours after Biden revealed his decision to step down and endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for the upcoming election.
Trump criticized the Democratic Party and the media, accusing them of knowingly pushing a candidate who could not realistically complete another term.
“So, we are forced to spend time and money on fighting Crooked Joe Biden, he polls badly after having a terrible debate, and quits the race. Now we have to start all over again,” Trump stated.
Trump further questioned, “Shouldn’t the Republican Party be reimbursed for fraud in that everybody around Joe, including his doctors and the Fake News Media, knew he was not capable of running for, or being, President? Just askin’?”
In another post, Trump addressed the upcoming presidential debate initially scheduled to air on ABC in September.
With Biden stepping down, Trump argued that the debate should now be aired on Fox News.
“My debate with Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the history of the United States, was slated to be broadcast on Fake News ABC, the home of George Slopadopolus, sometime in September,” Trump posted. “Now that Joe has, not surprisingly, has quit the race, I think the Debate, with whomever the Radical Left Democrats choose, should be held on FoxNews, rather than very biased ABC. Thank you!”
Biden’s decision to step aside has garnered mixed reactions within the Democratic Party.
While influential figures such as former President Bill Clinton and two-time presidential nominee Hillary Clinton have expressed their support for Harris, other Democrats have voiced concerns about the Democratic National Committee (DNC) potentially bypassing voters to “anoint” Harris as the nominee.
The Republican Party faces the challenge of redirecting its campaign efforts, while the Democratic Party must address internal divisions and rally support for Harris as their candidate.
