Residents across the Northeast have been left puzzled by unexplained drone sightings in recent weeks, sparking speculation and growing national concern. Former President Donald Trump has weighed in on the matter, urging action for the drones to be shot down if no satisfactory explanation is provided.
“Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them down!!!” Trump posted on Truth Social, adding his voice to a wave of frustration among citizens and lawmakers.
Sightings have been reported in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, with many questioning the federal government’s vague responses.
The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI claim most reports involve lawful aircraft operations, critics are not convinced. Officials insist that no malicious activity has been detected in the affected areas.
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) speculated on a possible foreign connection, alleging that high-level sources pointed to an Iranian “mothership” off the East Coast.
“They’ve launched drones into everything that we can see or hear,” Van Drew stated. However, the Pentagon dismissed the claims, saying there is no evidence of any such mothership or foreign drones.
“There is no Iranian ship off the coast of the United States, and there’s no so-called mothership launching drones towards the United States,” Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh clarified.
Meanwhile, former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan criticized the federal government’s lack of transparency in addressing the issue. “The public is growing increasingly concerned and frustrated with the complete lack of transparency and the dismissive attitude of the federal government,” Hogan remarked. “People are rightfully clamoring for answers, but aren’t getting any.”
Schumer Chips In
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has also chipped in. He urged the federal government to ramp up its efforts to identify the mysterious drones and their operators.
Speaking to reporters, Schumer called on the Department of Homeland Security to deploy declassified drone-tracking technology capable of tracing flying objects back to their origin.
“New Yorkers have tremendous questions about it. We are going to get the answers for them,” Schumer said, suggesting the use of recently unveiled radio wave technology. This innovative detector can distinguish between drones and birds, read a drone’s electronic registration, and track it to its landing location.
While some drone sightings have been attributed to “manned aircraft commonly mistaken for drones,” DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed the agency is working closely with local authorities to investigate further.
“We know of no foreign involvement with respect to the sightings in the Northeast. And we are vigilant in investigating this matter,” Mayorkas said.
Trump’s call for action amplifies the urgency felt by many Americans. Whether these sightings stem from foreign entities, lawful operations, or something else entirely, the demand for immediate answers remains louder than ever.
