Sen. Ron Johnson, R-(WI), has issued a subpoena demanding access to records from Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former White House COVID-19 response director.
Johnson cited long-standing concerns over withheld information regarding the government’s handling of the pandemic and vaccine safety.
In a press release, Johnson accused the Biden administration of obstructing congressional oversight efforts by failing to disclose key documents related to COVID-19.
“In the waning days of the Biden administration and after years of obstructing my oversight efforts, I warned [U.S. Department of Health and Human Services] officials that when I become chairman of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, I will subpoena records and data on the COVID-19 pandemic that have been inappropriately withheld from Congress and the American people for far too long,” Johnson stated.
The subpoena specifically seeks “heavily redacted communications about the pandemic,” including emails sent and received by Fauci, internal discussions about vaccine safety, and records detailing reported side effects among vaccinated individuals.
Johnson contends that much of this information should have been made available to lawmakers years ago but was deliberately kept under wraps by the Biden administration.
Johnson’s actions come as he assumes a key investigative role in the Senate, signaling intensified scrutiny over how the federal government handled the COVID-19 response.
His demand for transparency aligns with broader Republican concerns about government accountability, particularly regarding pandemic-era policies and vaccine safety protocols.
The subpoena sets the stage for a potential legal battle over access to these records, as the Biden administration’s handling of pandemic-related data continues to be a contentious issue
With growing calls for transparency, Johnson’s investigation could shed new light on the decision-making processes behind the government’s COVID-19 response, including Fauci’s role in shaping public health policy.
