President Donald Trump has rebounded to a 50 percent approval rating, according to a new national survey released by InsiderAdvantage.
The poll was conducted January 31 through February 1. It shows Trump’s approval rising nearly seven points within a week. The survey questioned 1,000 likely voters. It used a mixed-mode text and panel methodology. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.09 percent. Results were weighted for age, race, gender, and political affiliation.
Fifty percent of respondents said they approve of the job Trump is doing as president. Forty-nine percent said they disapprove. Just 1 percent reported having no opinion.
InsiderAdvantage pollster Matt Towery said Trump’s approval had dipped earlier. That drop followed a controversial law enforcement incident in Minnesota. Towery said the numbers rebounded after a change in leadership related to immigration enforcement in the state.
Towery said the movement reflects patterns seen in Trump’s previous presidential races. His approval often shifts following major news events. It then stabilizes afterward.
Towery also pointed to the sharp drop in undecided voters. He said opinions appear to have “settled out almost completely” for now.
The survey also measured views on media coverage of First Lady Melania Trump. The question followed the release of her new documentary film. The movie is currently playing in theaters nationwide.
Nearly 60 percent of voters agreed that media and fashion outlets have treated Melania Trump unfairly. The question compared coverage to recent first ladies such as Jill Biden and Michelle Obama. Thirty-three percent disagreed with the statement. Eight percent said they had no opinion.
Towery said the perception of bias crossed several demographic groups. Men agreed with the statement by more than thirty points. Women agreed by more than twenty points.
Democrats largely disagreed with the claim. However, African American respondents agreed with the statement by nearly 60 percent, according to the poll.
Towery said the findings are consistent with InsiderAdvantage’s prior surveys. He added that Trump’s approval has improved. He also cautioned that early indicators suggest the midterm elections could still be challenging for Republicans.
