There has been a lot of talk about who will be the final guests on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, as the chinny former comedian reaches the end (again) of his late night run on NBC. We all remember what happened last time Leno was supposed to leave the Tonight Show — but it seems this time around things are lined up much better, as excitement for Jimmy Fallon to take over the show is pretty high.
Leno and NBC this week announced who Leno’s final Tonight Show guests would be, and of course the lineup is star-studded.
According to Yahoo! Entertainment News, in 2009, when Leno bid farewell for the first time, his final two episodes featured his first guest when he made his Tonight Show debut in 1992, Billy Crystal, followed by a visit from his successor, Conan O’Brien, the next night.
Five years later, Leno’s second final week at will once again feature his new successor, Jimmy Fallon, on February 3rd, and Crystal on the final program February 6th, which also will feature musical guest and longtime Leno friend Garth Brooks. Other guests on Leno’s final week include Betty White, Matthew McConaughey, and Sandra Bullock.
The Tonight Show is currently the #1 rated late night show on all of television, which is exactly what Leno said he wanted to turn over to his predecessor when he was ready. Can Fallon keep those ratings? We will have to see.
It seems as though this time Leno will really be done, even if the show fizzles in Fallon’s hands.
