In the latest CNN poll, President Joe Biden faces a significant challenge as 61% say the Biden administration has been a failure.
The poll, conducted from April 18-23, 2024, surveyed just over 1200 respondents over the age of 18.
The Washington Examiner’s primary political correspondent, Byron York, posted a screenshot of the survey results along with a comment on X.
“New CNN national poll: Trump over Biden 49-43 in 2-way race, 42-33 in 5-way race. 55% say Trump’s presidency was a success, while 44% say it was a failure. 61% say Biden’s presidency has been a failure, 39% a success,” York wrote in his post on X.
This shift marks a substantial change since August when Trump held a mere one-point lead over Biden.
The dissatisfaction with Biden’s presidency is palpable among respondents, with 61% labelling it a failure, up from 57% in January of 2022. Just 39% view his presidency as a success, down from 41% in the same period.
These sentiments starkly contrast with the sentiments towards Trump, as 55% now view his presidency as a success, a significant reversal from the numbers in January of 2021.
One of the significant blows to Biden’s standing comes from his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict, with approval ratings plummeting to 28%, down from 34% in late January.
Meanwhile, disapproval ratings have risen to 71%, reflecting a growing dissatisfaction with his foreign policy decisions.
Even with the inclusion of independent candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cornel West, as well as Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Trump maintains a comfortable lead over Biden.
The margin of error for the poll is +/- 3.4%, with a confidence level of 95%, ensuring a reliable representation of public opinion.
With Trump gaining ground and dissatisfaction with Biden’s presidency mounting, the road to reelection appears increasingly challenging for the current administration.
