Trump Pledges Tax-Free Overtime for Workers in 2024 Campaign Promise

by Richard A Reagan

In a campaign rally in Tucson, Arizona, former President Donald Trump made a bold promise to eliminate taxes on overtime pay if re-elected in 2024.

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd in a critical swing state, Trump vowed to help some of the country’s hardest-working citizens by ensuring that overtime pay would be tax-free.

“As part of our additional tax cuts, we will end all taxes on overtime,” Trump declared to roaring applause. He explained that this move would motivate more people to work extra hours, saying, “It gives people more of an incentive to work. You’ll get a whole new workforce by doing the no taxes on overtime.”

Trump described overtime workers, including police officers, nurses, factory workers, truck drivers, and construction workers, as “some of the hardest working citizens in our country,” arguing that they deserve better treatment from the government. “For too long, no one in Washington has been looking out for them,” he added.

The former president noted that eliminating overtime taxes would ease financial pressure on workers who regularly put in more than 40 hours a week.

“When you’re past 40 hours a week, your overtime hours will be tax-free,” he said, adding that this would be a key part of his plan to “end the era of inflation, mayhem, and misery” under the current administration.

Trump’s economic advisers, according to him, have also praised the plan for its potential to stimulate the economy.

“Economists have told me this will bring money into our economy,” Trump said, framing the proposal as both a relief for workers and a boost to economic growth.

This pledge follows Trump’s earlier proposals to eliminate taxes on tips and reduce taxes on seniors’ Social Security checks. Together with these policies, Trump claims that eliminating overtime taxes will further his goal of restoring prosperity to American families.

In addition to the tax pledge, Trump addressed the issue of illegal immigration at the rally, promising to ban illegal migrants from receiving home mortgages or renting apartments in federally subsidized housing.

“We will not permit illegals to drive up the cost for Americans,” Trump said, reiterating his stance on strict immigration enforcement.

Trump’s commitment to working Americans has become a central theme in his 2024 campaign. His promise to make overtime pay tax-free resonates strongly with his base, particularly those in blue-collar jobs who often rely on overtime to make ends meet.
