The ongoing probe into Joe Biden’s business communications with his son, Hunter Biden, has taken a significant turn.
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) disclosed that it possesses nearly 5,400 emails, electronic records, and documents in which President Biden, during his tenure as vice president, allegedly used the pseudonyms “Robin Ware,” “Robert L. Peters,” and “JRB Ware.” [Source]
NARA disclosed this information in response to a Freedom of Information Act request by the Southeastern Legal Foundation (SLF), a nonprofit constitutional legal group.
SLF has now taken legal action against NARA to secure the release of these emails. They contend that the emails might reveal Biden’s sharing of government information and deliberations on official matters not just with his son, Hunter Biden, but also potentially with other affiliates.
Kimberly Hermann, SLF’s General Counsel, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “All too often, public officials abuse their power for personal or political gain. It’s essential for NARA to make these 5,400 emails available to SLF and, by extension, the public. Our citizens deserve transparency.” [Source]
This transparency has been a point of contention since June 2022, when SLF made its FOIA request. Their grievance stems from NARA’s apparent inaction following the acknowledgment of these emails. Despite confirming the existence of these records soon after the initial request, NARA has not provided a single email.
Hermann’s concerns echo those of House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, who has demanded that NARA provide unredacted versions of the records in question. These emails could be pivotal in the investigation surrounding any influence Hunter Biden’s foreign business operations might have had during Joe Biden’s vice presidency.
In a letter to Colleen Shogan, the head of NARA, on Aug. 17, Comer wrote, “The Committee’s need for these Vice-Presidential records is specific and well-documented. The Committee seeks to craft legislative solutions to address deficiencies it has identified in the current legal framework concerning ethics laws and the disclosure of financial interests related to the immediate family members of Vice Presidents and Presidents.” [Source]
SLF’s pursuit of these emails began in 2021, and their frustration has grown over time, leading to the current lawsuit. Their efforts to uncover the content of these emails are now intertwined with a congressional investigation focusing on the Bidens’ overseas business activities.
Braden Boucek, SLF’s Litigation Director, commented on the importance of public transparency, expressing disappointment with NARA’s ongoing delays, “Public transparency is the most vital tool citizens possess for holding our political class accountable. After more than a year of trying to collaborate with NARA, its continued unreasonable delays have compelled SLF to file this lawsuit.”
With such significant revelations emerging, the veil over the Biden family’s actions seems to be lifting further. What else will the archives reveal?
